Why We are Here

Where conflict and wrongdoing lead the way in every day America, seeded deep within us is the natural hope and desire for real justice to come about; for wrongs to be made right; for conflict to end in peace.

The Refuge is all about restoring relationships with God.  Where conflict reigns, we recognize a slanting of personal prejudices – the desires of our flesh are behind our fighting.  Where immorality and corruption run rampant, we find a passion to run far from God.  We have all been there.  At The Refuge, we will not be a condemning place; we will be a healing place, where all people are welcome.  Through our service in the community, our Biblical preaching, and our relational groups, we believe that restoring relationships with God begins when we encounter God’s redemptive love. We hope people like our church, but we won’t succeed until people encounter God and experience His love, again and again.

At the pinnacle of our encounter with God’s Love will be a decision to follow Him and live in His Kingdom, on earth as well as in heaven.  When we do so, we become a part of God’s body, the church.  Restoring relationship with God cannot happen without being a part of His body!  In addition to experiencing God’s redemptive love, restoring relationships with God continues as we allow God to grow us in His community. Transformation is the natural result of this growth, and that growth is in concert with one another.  The result is a strong family of Christ followers who make one another stronger for life’s battles in the home, work, and community.

For those who have been trained and transformed, we will continue to model our faithful service to our King as we serve our community for Christ.  Many hurting people live among us.  We’re not going to condemn.  We’re going to lead.  Like Marines who understand their call, we intend to be faithful to extend God’s redemptive love through our service, in order for others to have their relationship restored like ours.

Join us on this mission of restoring relationships with God; creating encounters of His love; growing in community; serving Jesus as our Savior and King!

We Believe

  • We believe in one God, creator of all things, infinitely perfect and externally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe Jesus Christ is true God and true man.  Jesus lived a sinless life, died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins, arose bodily from the grave and ascended to heaven where He is our Advocate.
  • We believe the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to convict people of sin, regenerate the believing sinner, indwell, instruct, and empower the believer for Godly living and service.
  • We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God, without error in the original writings, and is the final authority for all Christians.
  • We believe in God’s saving grace that calls all people to faith, repentance, confession, baptism, and a new life and ministry through the Holy Spirit.
  • We believe in the bodily resurrection of all humankind: the believer in Christ into everlasting joy, and the unbeliever into everlasting punishment.
  • We believe that God has ordained marriage, and that marriage is the exclusive covenantal union of one man and one woman in which such union is a lifetime commitment.
  • We commit to the teaching, practice and defense of these truths until the coming of our Lord Jesus.
